Rachel Adler is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Sciences at the Univerity of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she co-directs the Information Experience and Accessibility Lab. She was previously an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Northeastern Illinois University. She was also a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Northwestern University. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Her research interests are in the areas of human-computer interaction, accessibility, and computing education.

  1. Co-Director on a Department of Education EIR grant to increase K-12 teacher training in Computer Science at Waukegan School District 60, $3,532,144, 2019-2025.
  2. Consultant on a NIDILRR grant to design an mHealth peer navigator intervention for people with disabilities, $1,048,010, 2022-2025.
  3. PI on UIUC Campus Research Board grant investigating accessible software design for health applications for cancer survivors with disabilities, $10,000 (Received Arnold O. Beckman Award for special distinction or promise), 2024-2025.
  4. Co-PI on an Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue research award on developing a Gamified Finance Simulator for Older Adults. $4,000. 2024-2026.
  5. Co-PI on a SIGCSE Special Project Grant training teachers in accessibility, $5,000, 2025.
